Safe dismantling of a damaged Swing bridge in Bremerhaven
A damaged bridge section with a total weight of 750 tons posed a major challenge for the port industry in Bremerhaven. Due to contaminants (asbestos, lead, PAH), the bridge section was classified as hazardous waste and could not be moved without a permit. Krebs Unternehmensgruppe took over the entire process – from obtaining the official permits to dismantling and proper disposal.
- The bridge section was stored on a site that was urgently needed for other purposes, but could not be moved without official permission.
- High levels of pollution from asbestos, lead and PAHs required special safety and environmental protection measures.
- The riveted structure with an area of approximately 18.000 m² required special dismantling and decoating procedures.
The Krebs Unternehmensgruppe developed a complete solution for safe dismantling:
- Approval management: All necessary regulatory approvals were efficiently organized from a single source.
- Specialized dismantling processes:
- Inductive decoating to reduce blasting media waste.
- Airtight enclosure and asbestos protection measures for maximum safety.
- Circular cleaning process for environmentally friendly pollutant removal.
- Safe disposal: All residues were properly stored, documented, and disposed of.
